TERROR IN JAIPUR, INDIA
By Judith A. Klinghoffer (bio)

o

7 blasts in 20 minutes. 8 bomb defused. 60-80 people dead. Hundreds injured. Watch here

The Telegraph reports:

The first explosion happened in a popular vegetarian restaurant in a crowded bazaar shortly after 7.30pm.Within a few minutes, other bombs detonated at a nearby market place and inside a Hindu temple, packed with worshippers celebrating the holiest day of the week.

A fourth device exploded at Sanganer Gate, one of the main entrances leading through the walls of old Jaipur. Three other blasts took place elsewhere in the city, a popular tourist destination 170 miles south-west of New Delhi.

Among those killed were a 10-year-old boy and a bride in a bright red saree still wearing marriage bangles.

Why? Jaipur is a tourist haven. I know I visited it last year. The Islamist terrorists wish to undermine it’s economy.

Banned Harkat-ul-Jehadi Islamia (HuJI), operating from Bangladesh, is believed to be behind the serial blasts that rocked the tourist city of Jaipur on Tuesday evening, killing nearly 50 people besides injuring several others

Though baffled by the attack as Jaipur was not on the terror radar, sources said the tell-tale signs of the blasts indicate HuJI’s hand. . . .

HuJI outfit, suspected to be behind the blast at the sufi shrine, had used a mixture of Tri-Nitro Toluene (TNT) as the explosive material.

In today’s blasts also, pieces of iron pipe were used by militants as splinters that pierced through victims at the crowded places in the Pink city.

Why Jaipur? Indian police says: “Soft target. Not vigilant like Mumbai which has learned from experience. They have support in the city but the terrorists crossed the Bangladeshi borders.”

I suspect also that elections are coming and they can. The ruling Indian Congress Party depends heavily on Muslim vote and can be expected to tread softly. It is also possible (though less likely) that the terrorists were in the group that infiltrated from Pakistan in Samba where it murdered, kidnapped and engaged in a gun battle with the Indian army.

Terror in India usually receives very little attention. As could have been expected this time is not different. CNN news failed to note it at 2:00 p.m. BBC America also ignored the story in it’s 7:00pm edition. Is it for Obama’s sake?

Oh, yes, Maoists or Naxalite terrorists invigorated by their success in Nepal are continuing to reek havoc. In the latest atrocity 9 railroad workers were murdered in Assam.
