A CALL TO ACTION!

Running for Office

A recent comment regarding an article of which I wrote deserves an answer. The writer said that “instead of complaining we should run for office.” This question misses that point of my opinions and writings. My answer is this. The state of consciousness of the American voter is very low, in my opinion. My proof is, look who we have voted into office and the sad state of affairs. I always try and point out a solution to a problem whenever I write. My objective in these missives is to try and persuade and hopefully educate people regarding different ideas, principles and facts. Without pointing out to people that business as usual is not acceptable they will continue to vote and support for business as usual.

A number of people including the editorial staff of the HJ seem to think that to “preserve” laceName w:st="on">CachelaceName> laceType w:st="on">ValleylaceType> all we need to do is ban box stores or something similar. To me this is a very sad statement about the amount of ignorance of simply economic principles. Ultimately, the problem with growth in laceName w:st="on">CachelaceName> laceType w:st="on">ValleylaceType> is that our birth rate is one of the highest in the nation. This places increased demand for housing, jobs and increased traffic as well as greater demand for governmental services which leads to higher taxes. Condemning a symptom of a problem as the problem is illogical at best. Furthermore, does anyone realize the results of creating more open space or attempts to control the market? The result will be higher housing prices and greater unemployment as well as higher prices for consumer goods.

The fact that this doesn’t even dawn on people is unbelievable to me. Every action has a consequence. This is easily observable. The extremeness of the action results in an extreme result. The more government tries to control our economic system the worse that that system behaves. This should be common knowledge and common sense to people. Government involvement in the economy almost always has disastrous results. That is why Socialism is bad. It doesn’t work! Despite overwhelming evidence of this the number of people calling for more government involvement never ceases. That is one of the main reasons that I write these columns. People need to learn the simple facts before we can go on to more sophisticated argument. To argue that because Congress hasn’t exercised its Constitutional authority is pointless unless people know what the Constitution says and why violating it is not a good thing. People in this country do not even have a clue that government creates far more problems than it solves. So I say, convince them first that the free market is vastly preferable to governmental controls; then argue that we should follow Constitutional Principles. Is that so hard to understand?

Peace

I am going to run for office some day soon. The one thing I will do is follow Constitutional Principles! Even if people get mad. The one thing those who hold office today save a few don't do, is follow Constitutional Principles.
